As opposed to modern astrology, traditional Hellenistic astrology is the study of someone’s fate and fortune not someone’s psychology. The word Moria is a Greek word that is the singular version of the word Moira which means “lots, destinies, apportioners”.
The Moirai were the personifications of fate in Greek mythology. The Moirai consist of 3 gods Clotho the spinner, Lachesis the allotter and Atropos the unturnable. These 3 symbolically represented human life divided into 3 stages. Clotho represented birth, Lachesis represented living, in between birth and death and finally Atropos represented death, symbolically by the cut of a thread with scissors.
The role of these gods was to ensure that every being lived out their fixed and assigned destiny. Sort of like how in traditional astrology, the natal chart is seen as someone’s fixed destiny that they are meant to live out.
The word Moira specifically mean a portion of fate or a lot. The word lot brings me to think about “the lot of fortune” or the lots in general, which are used in the traditional Hellenistic timing technique called Zodiacal Releasing. With this technique, specifically with using the lot of fortune, you can see health conditions due to the lot of fortune being related to the moon and the moon is said to signify the body in astrology. Lots are connected to fate and fortune and so, a single lot is seen as a portion of destiny. With lots in astrology, astrologers are literally seeing a portion of someone’s destiny with the use of lots in timing techniques.
The word Moira is also not just a word but can be used as a name.
